SHIMUL PATEL ON STRUCTURE, POWER, AND THE LONG GAME.

Shimul PATEL, Founder- Self-Cntrd.

From Attention to Presence

When Shimul strips Self-Cntrd down to its essence, she reveals something profound: "It's about shifting a woman from seeking attention to commanding presence." This isn't merely marketing speak, it's the philosophical foundation upon which her entire brand is built

"Fast fashion can imitate a silhouette, but it can't replicate the internal recalibration that happens when something is intentionally crafted to sculpt, elevate, and reinforce power," she explains. Her pieces are designed with surgical precision, moving women "from self-conscious to self-assured, from dressing for validation to dressing from self-worth."

The difference, she notes, is fundamental: "We don't design for trend participation. We design for identity reinforcement."

The Uncomfortable Truth About Power

Building a power brand requires embracing traits that society often discourages in women. For her, the most essential and uncomfortable trait is unwavering self-prioritisation.

"Women are often encouraged to be collaborative, accommodating, and agreeable. But building a power brand requires the opposite at times," she reflects. With Self-Cntrd, this meant refusing to compromise on their signature silhouettes, crystal detailing, or premium pricing to feel more "accessible."

'The irony is that women are socially discouraged from centring themselves. Yet centring yourself is exactly what builds power."

The Invisible Art of Luxury

What makes a garment look expensive? According to Shimul, it's something most people never consciously notice: tension control and seam placement.

"Luxury design engineers how the fabric holds the body, not just how it covers it," she reveals. When panels are placed precisely and stretch is balanced, "the dress sculpts instead of squeezes." It's a detail that separates true luxury from imitation Fast fashion copies shape. Luxury controls structure."

Value Before Volume In Business

  • She has observed a crucial pattern among successful fashion founders: they think about value before volume. Successful founders understand that "every decision either builds desire or weakens it.

  • Psychologically, they embrace the long game. "They don't rush to discount. They don't overproduce to chase quick sales. They protect the brand, even if it means slower growth in the beginning."

  • The difference isn't creativity it's restraint. The strongest founders constantly ask: "Will this strengthen the brand?"not just "Will this sell today?"

The Inner Transformation

If Self-Cntrd were purely about attitude rather than clothing, Shimul envisions a specific transformation: the shift from questioning oneself to owning the room.

"The moment she puts it on, I want the shift from questioning herself to owning the room. No adjusting, no second-guessing, no shrinking. Just a quiet, grounded confidence."

The structure of Self-Cntrd pieces isn't merely physical, it's psychological. "When something fits you precisely and elevates you, your posture changes. Your energy changes. You stop asking for approval."

The Power of Being Anchored

Shimul's personal styling philosophy is elegantly simple: "When something fits perfectly and is cut well, you don't need more. A strong silhouette does the talking."

She gravitates toward structured, body-hugging pieces because they make her "stand taller and feel more defined." When her outfit feels intentional, she feels "clearer and more decisive."

Her advice distills into one powerful directive: "Wear something that makes you feel anchored. When you feel anchored, you naturally look powerful."
